One of the most important aspects of your business is marketing your website. If you think people aren’t making quick judgments of who you are and what you have to offer by looking at your website, you’d be surprised!

In the 21st century, your website is your brochure and much more. If you don’t have an informative, catchy and very attractive website, you can also go to the end of the class. I am going to share with you some of the most important website marketing techniques that I think most people don’t understand.

Make sure your website represents you. The look and feel of the website should immediately show people who you are and what you have to offer. If you’re selling something, your website colors and setup should have a look and feel that clearly shows what your site is about.

I am continually amazed at 75% of the websites I look at from people claiming to be an expert in something. They are clearly not website marketing experts. If you have a website, take the time to hire someone or research how to set it up so it looks and feels like the success you claim to be. Not only is it imperative that you have a website, but you really need to express yourself and your product(s).

This part of your business is more important than your office, your business card, and your brochure put together. I know a lot of people who don’t do business with people they can’t see on the web. In this age where you can get quick and useful information at your fingertips, if your business doesn’t provide that with your website, then you can’t seem to keep up. Would you choose a company that couldn’t keep up?

Make sure your site’s presentation is easy to follow. One thing you don’t want is long paragraphs that go on and on. Everything must be spaced and separated. Most people are going to take a look at your website to find what they are looking for. If it’s not designed for easy scanning, your website will be skipped entirely.

Be sure to separate each thought. Make bullets and number sections with headings. All this makes it easy to read. It won’t seem like much if there’s enough white space between each thought.

Be creative. Offer something outside the box. You want people to visit your website and think, oh, I have to come back here. What you would offer here would largely depend on what you are selling. You want to add value to your visitors so that they not only come back, but also tell their friends about your site. One thing I did was create my own quiz. Since it’s something I designed myself, it’s unique and offers something different, you won’t find it anywhere else.

Keep them coming back for more. I am always adding new things to my website. Experiment with what works and what doesn’t. If you always add new and interesting things, people will keep coming back. I give MP3 for free. I add new ones every few weeks, this way people keep coming back for the new ones. You can offer something that is less time consuming and just add a new one or updated version every month or so.

Talk to your visitors, not to your visitors. It is extremely valuable to build a relationship with your readers. The way to do this is by talking to them the same way you would talk to your friends. Pick a friend and just share. This type of communication when it comes to websites is key.

Let your personality shine through while staying true to the content on your site. Remember that you want to build trust and relationships. Don’t talk bad about your visitors, talk to them. The way I do this is by imagining I’m talking to a friend and then writing my page as if I’m sharing with that particular friend. You want your visitors to know you.
