1. The National Museum of Costa Rica (The National Museum) is housed in an old fort with bullets still lodged in its walls from the 1948 civil war. It became a museum in 1950 and displays some of the magnificent art and artifacts from this rich culture. Artifacts from ancient times are on display, as well as contemporary works of art. One of the highlights is the Colonial house depicting life in earlier times.

2.The Costa Rican Center for Science and Culture It is a fantastic museum, housed in a fortress like building. From 1910 to 1971 it served as a penitentiary. The museum contains several thematic exhibits. One of the highlights is the Kid’s museum or children’s museum. It is an interactive museum designed to educate and entertain children of all ages. Tea National Gallery it contains fourteen exhibits on two different levels. The Gallery exhibits works of art, drawings, artifacts and scientific articles. There is a beautiful concert hall where many concerts of different kinds are held.

3. The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design it is a beautiful museum with four exhibits, showcasing emerging and renowned artists. This museum will delight the whole family and offers a charming gift shop with perfect souvenirs and gift-giving opportunities.

4. Not far from San José is one of the most beautiful and unique rivers in the world, The Celestial River. Due to a phenomenon caused by the mixture of sulfur and calcium carbonate, the water acquires a turquoise color. If you enjoy a walk of about an hour you will come to a beautiful waterfall which adds a lot to the view. A “must see” place to visit.

5. Located under the Culture Square is a most unusual museum, the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum. It contains more than 1,600 gold artifacts, some dating back to 500 AD. C. It contains the first coin minted in Costa Rica, dating back to 1825. Located in the same building on the ground floor is the Museo Nacional de la Moneda, which contains coins dating back to 1236. In the same building is tea Exchange housecontaining the history of mining in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is rich in history and culture. You will find so many places of interest that it is not possible to log into an article like this short one. San José abounds with many elegant hotels and restaurants. The airport is only 20 minutes away and transportation is easy as taxis are relatively cheap.
