These characters, or “Characters,” can be anything from historical figures to famous celebrities. Once created, Characters can be assigned a specific room topic and instructed to discuss that topic in a preprogrammed manner.

This allows the user to engage in authentic conversation that is entertaining, informative, or inspiring. Character AI combines cutting-edge deep learning models, including large language models trained specifically for crafting conversational experiences. Its functionality can be likened to a supercomputer absorbing textual data, learning patterns, and predicting suitable responses on-the-fly. As a result, it is sometimes difficult to discern the difference between human and computer.

To create a new Character, click the create button in the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the interface. Choose either the quick or advanced creation option, depending on your level of experience with AI. Enter a name (1), an opening greeting (2), and select the type of image you would like for your Character (3). If you select the advanced creation option, you will be given the option to enter a longer description (4).

In the long description, it is important to include a detailed physical appearance, such as height, gender, hair color, eye color, body type, and any other notable features. It is also important to avoid using any text in parentheses, as this represents direct instruction to the AI and will significantly alter the character’s behavior.

How is Character AI trained and developed?

During this step, it is also critical to note any relevant personality traits that the character may have. For example, if you want your Character to have a particular political ideology, you can specify that in the personality section of the form. You can also add any other relevant information that you wish to include about your character, such as a favorite song or TV show.

After a Character is created, it must be trained. This is done through a process called reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF). During this phase, users can rate the character’s performances and provide feedback that will improve future interactions. This is an essential part of the Character AI process, as it can dramatically improve the quality of conversations with the bot.
