There are some verbs that we usually use in the [ te-form of a verb ] + [ iru / imasu ] building. shiru (“know”) is one of them. However, in the negative form, we use shiranai Prayed shirimasenNOT shit inai Prayed shit imagine.

Examples:

formal speech

  1. Formal: Ano hito or shitte imasu ka.
    informal: Ano milestone, shitteiru?

    Translation: “Do you know that person?”

  2. Formal: That is, shirimasen.
    informal: iya shiranai.

    Translation: “Not.”
