Foosball is a competitive game. It is a game that follows a strict set of rules that all players must adhere to. Foosball etiquette refers to the do’s and don’ts of when you’re at the gaming table.

1. Respect the result of the coin toss at the start of the match.

Players use a coin to determine which team starts the match. This step could be very primitive, you might think. But unless the game officials tell you otherwise, you must follow the coin toss rule.

2. When choosing a side, do not change your decision.

Foosball etiquette requires players to stand firm in their decision at all times. This is most evident when players are given the opportunity to choose which side of the table they want to play on. Choose accordingly and stick to your decision. Act like a true professional.

3. No profanity or bad language is allowed.

Understandably, sometimes the game gets really tough and very intense. However, keep in mind that the game must remain healthy competition. Bad words and bad words have no place in a game of table football.

4. Do not touch the ball when it is in play.

The only time you can touch the ball is when you retrieve it from the goal and put it back into play. After that, there should be no reason for you to touch it. Only foosball players can hit the ball and get it into the goal.

5. Don’t serve the ball until your opponent is ready.

Foosball etiquette requires fair play at all times. The game referee normally whistles to signal when the serving player can start the game. However, if there is no official around, each player must be courteous enough to get the other player’s attention before serving.

6. The ball is considered out of bounds if it leaves the game table.

There are cases where the ball hits the ceiling, a cabinet, a tray, or anything outside the foosball table. In such cases, the ball is declared out of bounds and play is restarted, whether the ball managed to return to the field of play or not. However, if the ball touches the sides of the foosball table or any structure that is still officially part of the table, play must continue as is.

7. Without turning

This is one of the cardinal rules of table football. Spinning is defined as the rotation of foosball players in more than one rotation. Players must be in full control of the game and are not allowed to simply spin the rod expecting to hit the ball while doing so.
