Now that your tattoo is completely finished, the onus is entirely on you to make sure your tattoo heals properly, making sure it looks its best. When you first finish your ink, your artist will place a bandage over it. Don’t take this off! If you want to take a photo to send to your friends, make sure you do it before they sell you. This fights infection because at this point your tattoo is just an open wound, so treat it that way! If you get your tattoo in the afternoon, wait at least 3 hours for the bandage to come off, but if you get it at night, it’s best to wait until you wake up to expose it to fresh air and check it out. yourself.

Once you remove the bandage, you will want to wash the tattoo. Use warm water and antibacterial soap or just a soap with as little perfume as possible. Wash off any blood, ointment, or plasma that your tattoo released, but be careful! Using your hand to clean is the best thing to do, but don’t use something rough like a washcloth. Once you’re ready to pat the area dry, pat it dry with a paper towel or other soft towel. Now you should be all good and clean!

Now is the time to apply an ointment to help the tattoo heal faster. You can use Tattoo Goo, H2Ocean or some of the other brand name products or you can just go to a store and buy A&D Ointment, Bacitracin or some other antibacterial ointment. Apply VERY GENTLY with your fingers, making sure there is little excess. You want to let the tattoo still breathe.

After a few days of applying the ointment, you can stop using it and start using a lotion without dye or fragrance. Just keep an eye on him for. It will start to peel and possibly itch after a few days, but don’t itch! Patting works well, just be gentle. Don’t be afraid to shower or get your tattoo wet, it won’t fall off! Just don’t immerse it, like taking a bath in hot water or getting into a hot tub, for at least 2-3 weeks. A good healing process ensures that your tattoo won’t fade in a couple of months, so be sure to go the extra mile to keep it clean and well cared for!
